Sioux Falls, SD – Drivers in South Dakota face reduced visibility this morning as a dense fog advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Areas near I-29 are especially impacted, with visibility dropping to less than a quarter mile. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and use headlights to ensure safety.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing fog developed overnight and will gradually lift by late morning. Patchy fog is expected to return tonight and persist into Christmas morning, especially near and east of I-29. Drivers should prepare for potential delays and monitor local weather updates for changes in conditions.

Looking Ahead at the Week:

Wednesday (Christmas Day): Morning fog, clearing to partly sunny skies by afternoon. Highs will reach 40°F with light winds.

Thursday: Mild and cloudy, with highs near 44°F.

Friday: Rain chances increase, especially east of I-29. Highs will remain in the upper 40s.

Saturday and Sunday: Dry and partly sunny, with highs ranging from 40°F to 43°F.

The mild temperatures make holiday travel more manageable, but dense fog remains a concern through midweek. If driving near I-29, keep emergency kits in your vehicle and allow extra time to reach your destination safely.
