Sioux Falls, SD – Temperatures are set to plunge across South Dakota this week as the northern Plains faces a surge of Arctic air. Residents and travelers along Highway 14 are warned to prepare for sub-zero wind chills, with the coldest conditions expected Friday through Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, highs on Friday will only reach 15 to 25 degrees, with overnight lows dipping into single digits. Areas near Highway 14 could experience temperatures slightly below zero. Wind chills will amplify the cold, creating hazardous outdoor conditions for prolonged exposure.
Light snow flurries are possible north of I-90 on Wednesday, but otherwise, dry weather is expected through the holiday weekend. Thanksgiving Day will see highs near 31 degrees under mostly sunny skies, offering brief relief before temperatures plummet Thursday night.
For travelers heading out for holiday plans, ensure vehicles are winter-ready and pack emergency kits, including blankets and water. Roadways may see isolated icy patches as temperatures fall overnight.
