Austin, TX – South-central Texas is preparing for a combination of intense heat and dust-induced haze over the coming days. The National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio has forecasted dry and warm conditions with high temperatures ranging from 94°F to 103°F. The area will also experience a plume of Saharan dust, resulting in hazy conditions and potentially unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups.
According to the National Weather Service, these conditions are expected to persist through Thursday, with a slight chance of isolated showers and storms on Sunday. The dust, visible over the Gulf of Mexico and Texas coast as of Tuesday evening, has moved inland, affecting air quality across south-central Texas.
The air quality forecast for Wednesday shows unhealthy conditions for sensitive groups, including individuals with respiratory issues. Residents are advised to monitor air quality updates at airnow.gov and limit outdoor activities if necessary. Temperatures will remain high, with forecasts predicting 95°F on Wednesday, gradually increasing to 100°F by Saturday.
Despite minimal impacts expected from weather conditions on Thursday and Friday, residents should stay informed and take precautions against the heat and poor air quality. The dust is expected to thin by Thursday, but the high temperatures will continue, maintaining the need for vigilance and protective measures throughout the week.
