Hastings, NE — A series of early morning thunderstorms began moving through parts of southern Nebraska on Monday, bringing gusty winds and the potential for severe weather. Wind gusts near 45 mph and occasional lightning have been reported as the storms track through the southwest counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a few thunderstorms are expected to continue through the day, with some storms possibly becoming stronger by late afternoon. A more significant chance for thunderstorms exists between noon and 7 p.m., with isolated supercells capable of producing quarter-sized hail and winds exceeding 60 mph. A brief, isolated tornado cannot be ruled out during this period.

By Monday night, thunderstorms will taper off, with overnight lows near 48°F. Calm, sunny conditions will return on Tuesday, with temperatures warming to the upper 70s. This clearing trend will persist through midweek, offering pleasant weather before cooler conditions arrive later in the week. Residents should stay updated on potential storm developments throughout the day and be prepared for any severe weather warnings.
