Jackson, KY – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for south-central and southeastern Kentucky from late Friday morning through early Saturday. Up to 5 inches of snow is expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, snowfall will likely begin Friday morning, intensifying by the afternoon. Accumulations of 3 to 5 inches could blanket cities such as London, Corbin, Somerset, and Hazard.

The agency warns of hazardous road conditions, especially during Friday’s evening commute. Drivers should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility. Those traveling across Rockcastle, Laurel, Wayne, and Knox counties should allow extra time.

Local officials urge residents to monitor weather updates and make necessary preparations, including stocking emergency kits. Travel should be limited where possible, especially in areas prone to significant snowfall.

Cold temperatures accompanying the storm may lead to icy spots, particularly on bridges and overpasses. By early Saturday, snow is expected to taper off, leaving roads potentially slick through the weekend.

This Winter Storm Watch serves as a reminder to stay cautious and prepared. Keep up with local forecasts and take steps to ensure safety as conditions develop.
