Greenville, SC – Snowfall is set to return to the mountains near the North Carolina-Tennessee border Friday afternoon, bringing 1-3 inches of accumulation to higher elevations. Travelers heading to the region should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg, snow will begin Friday afternoon and continue into Saturday morning, mainly affecting elevations above 2,500 feet. The Tennessee border areas could experience the heaviest snowfall, with travel disruptions likely along major mountain roadways, such as Interstate 40 and US 441.

Thursday will remain calm, with sunny skies and highs near 56°F in Greenville, followed by a mostly cloudy evening and a low around 40°F. Friday’s daytime temperatures will remain in the mid-50s, though colder air moving in late will drop overnight lows to 30°F. Winds will increase Friday, with gusts reaching up to 22 mph.

The weekend will bring freezing conditions to the Upstate, with Saturday’s high peaking at just 48°F and lows dipping to 24°F overnight. Sunday is expected to be sunny but cold, with a high of 44°F and similar overnight lows.

NWS advises drivers in mountain regions to use caution and allow extra time for travel. Those staying in the Upstate should prepare for freezing mornings and take precautions to protect outdoor plants and pets.
