Allendale, SC – Light freezing rain swept across Allendale, Jenkins, and Screven counties this morning, creating icy conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather advisory for these areas from 7 a.m. to noon Friday.

According to the NWS, freezing rain began early Friday and has resulted in a thin layer of ice forming on bridges, overpasses, and other exposed surfaces. Road conditions have been described as hazardous, with drivers urged to slow down and exercise caution.

The advisory covers Allendale County in South Carolina, along with Jenkins and Screven counties in Georgia. Authorities warned that the freezing rain may disrupt the morning commute. Local emergency management officials emphasized the importance of taking extra precautions when traveling, particularly on untreated roads.

Temperatures hovering around the freezing mark are causing surfaces to ice over quickly, especially shaded areas and sidewalks. Pedestrians have been advised to watch their footing on steps and driveways.

Motorists can check real-time road conditions by dialing 511 for state updates. Officials also reminded residents to keep their phones charged and stay informed about evolving weather conditions.

Freezing rain is expected to taper off by noon, but lingering ice may remain in shaded areas throughout the day. Crews have been dispatched to monitor and address the most dangerous roadways.

Residents are urged to monitor local updates and limit travel unless necessary.
