Columbia, SC – A bright, sunny start to the first weekend of the new year is expected across South Carolina, with mild temperatures prevailing. However, residents should prepare for a shift in weather as rain is likely to move in late Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday will be mostly sunny with a high near 56°F and calm winds, making it an ideal day for outdoor activities. Friday night temperatures will drop to a chilly 27°F, so residents venturing out should bundle up.

The sunny conditions will persist into Saturday, with a high near 47°F and light winds. Saturday night will be mostly clear, with lows around 26°F.

Changes arrive Sunday as clouds increase, and rain is expected by the evening. Highs will climb to 51°F during the day, but nighttime rain could impact travel and outdoor plans. The rain chance peaks at 60% overnight into Monday, with showers lingering into the morning. Monday will see slightly warmer highs around 59°F before clearing again by the evening.

Drivers should stay cautious during the potential wet conditions late Sunday into Monday morning. If heading out, avoid roadways prone to ponding, especially during heavier rainfall.
