Columbia, SC – South Carolinians celebrating Thanksgiving should prepare for a sharp change in the weather heading into the weekend. While scattered showers and thunderstorms may affect parts of the state today, colder air is expected to sweep through by Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop significantly once the current cold front moves through the region. Highs near 73 degrees on Thanksgiving Day will fall to a brisk 58 degrees Friday, with lows dipping to around 31 degrees by Friday night. Winds along major routes like I-20 could reach up to 14 mph today, making caution necessary for holiday travelers.
Residents should also expect sunny but much cooler conditions throughout the weekend. Saturday’s high will reach only 54 degrees, with clear skies and light winds. Overnight lows will plummet into the low 30s, and by Sunday, temperatures will remain well below seasonal norms, with a high near 55 degrees and a nighttime low of 28 degrees.
Monday will continue the trend of chilly weather, with highs struggling to reach 49 degrees. Those planning outdoor activities should dress warmly and stay updated on local forecasts for any additional changes.
The holiday weekend is expected to remain precipitation-free after today’s showers, providing favorable conditions for Black Friday shopping or travel. However, the significant drop in temperatures marks a stark shift from earlier this week’s mild weather.
Stay tuned to local updates for further details and plan accordingly for a colder-than-usual end to Thanksgiving weekend.
