Spartanburg, SC – Chilly, wet weather is expected across the Upstate region today, with freezing rain impacting higher elevations of the North Carolina mountains. Travelers along I-85 and surrounding areas should use caution due to potential slick roads and ice accumulation during the morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon for the northern foothills and mountains of North Carolina. Light freezing rain, sleet, and patchy fog may cause reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions. Rain will gradually replace freezing precipitation by midday as temperatures hover in the 40s. Residents northwest of I-85 can expect prolonged light rain throughout the day.

Tonight, conditions will remain cloudy with a chance of patchy fog and lows around 40 degrees. Drivers should remain vigilant for localized ice refreezing on elevated surfaces, including bridges and overpasses.

Looking ahead, Monday brings a break from the freezing rain. The Upstate can expect mostly cloudy skies with highs near 56°F. Calm winds and dry conditions will persist into Monday night, with lows dropping to 46°F.

Tuesday offers some relief, as partly sunny skies and highs near 68°F provide a brief warmup. However, another chance for showers returns Wednesday, with a 30% chance of rain after 10 a.m. and highs again reaching the upper 60s. By Thursday, temperatures will cool, dipping to a high of 57°F.

Travelers and residents should remain cautious this morning, especially in higher elevations. Stay updated with forecasts, monitor changing road conditions, and plan for a chilly, damp start to the week.
