South Carolina residents should prepare for thunderstorms Friday afternoon through Saturday as a severe weather watch is in effect. According to the National Weather Service, the region of Greenville-Spartanburg will face unsettled weather this weekend, with the possibility of strong storms and rain. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in place for these areas until midnight EDT tonight.

Friday’s weather begins with cloudy skies, but conditions will rapidly worsen after 2 p.m. as thunderstorms become more likely, with rain potentially heavy enough to cause localized flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts up to an inch of rain in certain areas, especially in high-traffic zones such as I-85 and I-385, where wet roads could lead to hazardous travel conditions. If you’re planning to drive, take extra caution on those highways and avoid non-essential travel if possible.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday will offer only a slight improvement, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. Mother’s Day on Sunday will see less rain, with a slight chance of isolated showers after 11 p.m. Expect mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures, with highs reaching the low 70s and lows dipping to around 57°F.

For outdoor plans, be mindful that showers are more likely to impact areas south of Greenville, particularly along the I-26 corridor. It’s a good idea to check weather updates as storms develop and keep an eye on local warnings.

Extended Forecast: Saturday through Tuesday

Saturday: Partly cloudy with a high near 72°F.
Sunday (Mother’s Day): Slight chance of showers in the evening, high of 72°F.
Monday: Mostly cloudy, high of 70°F.
Tuesday: Showers likely, high near 74°F.
Wednesday: A chance of scattered showers with temperatures around 63°F.

Stay updated with real-time weather alerts and make any necessary preparations before venturing out over the weekend.
