Columbia, SC – Residents across South Carolina are starting Tuesday under cloudy skies with scattered showers, but conditions are expected to improve by this afternoon as Tropical Storm Imelda shifts eastward.
According to the National Weather Service Columbia office, isolated to scattered showers will remain possible through about midday, particularly across the Midlands and coastal counties. By early afternoon, drier air should push in as Imelda pulls further offshore, bringing clearing skies and calmer conditions.
The storm made its anticipated eastward turn early Tuesday morning, reducing the threat of heavy rainfall for most of the state. Forecasters note that while patchy rain may cause brief wet roads and reduced visibility through late morning, no widespread flooding or severe weather is expected.
Elsewhere, Hurricane Humberto continues to track off the Southeast coast but is not currently forecast to bring direct impacts to South Carolina. The National Weather Service will continue to monitor its movement.
Travelers across the Midlands and Lowcountry should see improving conditions by late day, with the evening commute expected to be dry. Looking ahead, forecasters expect a stretch of calmer, seasonal fall weather across South Carolina later this week.
