Columbia, South Carolina – Scattered storms could sweep through Columbia by Friday afternoon, bringing isolated downpours and travel delays ahead of a steamy weekend. Temperatures will climb into the 90s, with Saturday’s high expected near 94°F — the hottest day of the stretch.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20% chance of thunderstorms arrives after 2 p.m. Friday as winds shift west. While widespread impacts aren’t expected, brief heavy rain could affect drivers on I-20 and U.S. 321 during the evening commute.

By Saturday, moisture increases across central South Carolina. Afternoon storms are again possible with a 40% chance of rain after 2 p.m., followed by another round between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Sunday. Highs near 94°F and rising humidity could create dangerous heat index values — residents should stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during peak hours.

Sunday brings partly sunny skies and another 40% chance of showers and storms after 2 p.m., with highs dipping slightly to 88°F. Storm activity continues into Sunday night with rain chances increasing to 60%.

Looking ahead, scattered storms and muggy air linger into early next week. Monday and Tuesday both carry rain chances above 40%, with overnight lows staying in the upper 60s.
