Charleston, SC – Isolated severe thunderstorms could impact parts of Charleston, Dorchester, Colleton, and Berkeley Counties this afternoon, potentially bringing damaging winds and large hail. The National Weather Service issued a warning for the risk of storms between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. today.
According to the NWS, the storm system is expected to develop and affect areas mainly to the north and west of Charleston, including the cities of Summerville, Walterboro, and Beaufort. Damaging straight-line winds and large hail are the main hazards, along with the possibility of ground-to-ground lightning strikes.
Residents in the impacted counties are urged to secure loose outdoor items, stay indoors, and avoid standing near trees or power lines during the storm. If possible, refrain from non-essential travel until the threat passes. Authorities are also advising people to stay weather aware throughout the afternoon.
