Greenville, SC – Heavy rain and severe weather are sweeping across Upstate South Carolina today, creating hazardous conditions for travelers and residents alike. Forecasters warn of potential flash flooding, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado threat in the region, especially along major roadways like I-85 and I-26.

According to the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg, the storm system will continue through the early afternoon, with rainfall totals reaching 2-4 inches in some areas. Visibility is reduced due to dense fog, and localized flooding could make roads impassable. Motorists should exercise caution and avoid driving through flooded areas.

Periods of rain will taper off by the evening, giving way to mostly clear skies overnight with lows around 44 degrees. Monday will bring calmer conditions, with sunny skies and a high near 62 degrees. However, rain chances return by Tuesday, with showers likely during the morning hours.

New Year’s Eve and Day promise clear, sunny weather, with highs in the mid-50s and lows dipping to 30 degrees. This reprieve from severe weather offers an opportunity for outdoor celebrations.

Residents in low-lying areas should monitor updates and prepare for potential evacuations if flooding worsens. Emergency services recommend having an emergency kit and checking local updates for road closures.
