According to the National Weather Service, a line of showers and thunderstorms will move through the Midlands late Thursday afternoon and evening, with a 70% chance of precipitation. Rainfall could exceed a quarter inch in some areas, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Columbia is expected to see highs near 85°F before storms roll in.
Thursday night will stay stormy with a 60% chance of continued thunderstorm activity before 2 a.m. Friday. Roads such as I-20 and Highway 378 may experience ponding and slick surfaces during the evening commute.
Friday brings another round of storms, especially after 2 p.m., with highs again in the mid-80s. While precipitation chances decrease slightly to 50%, periods of heavy rain could continue to disrupt outdoor plans. Drivers should allow extra travel time and avoid flooded roadways.
