Charleston, South Carolina – Minor flooding is likely in Charleston and surrounding Tri-County communities tonight as heavy rainfall continues to overwhelm low-lying and poor drainage areas.

According to the National Weather Service Charleston, up to 5 inches of rainfall are possible in isolated parts of the region through late Monday night. The highest flood risk is centered on the Charleston Tri-County area, particularly in urban zones like Downtown Charleston. High tide is expected at 4:10 p.m. in Charleston Harbor, which could exacerbate flooding in coastal neighborhoods.

Local roads near marshes, drainage ditches, and urban intersections are especially vulnerable. Residents in Summerville, Mount Pleasant, and Goose Creek should avoid driving through water-covered roads and monitor alerts. Urban flooding could occur quickly, especially during the evening commute.

NWS urges residents to keep storm drains clear, secure outdoor items, and remain indoors if possible. Flash flooding remains unlikely, but isolated pockets are not ruled out.

The flooding threat is expected to ease after midnight, but localized issues could persist into Tuesday morning. Additional alerts may be issued if rainfall intensifies.
