Charleston, South Carolina – Scattered thunderstorms could impact inland South Carolina today, with the highest chances for showers and storms expected through the afternoon and evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, Thursday’s rain coverage will range from 20% to 50%, with the greatest likelihood of storms developing over inland counties. Daytime highs will climb into the upper 70s to mid-80s, while overnight lows are expected to fall into the upper 50s to mid-60s.

Motorists in areas like Orangeburg, Walterboro, and Moncks Corner should watch for slick roads and sudden downpours. The scattered nature of the storms means not everyone will see rain, but those who do could experience brief gusty winds or lightning. While widespread flooding is not anticipated, low-lying areas prone to ponding should still be monitored.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and avoid outdoor activities during storms. Charge mobile devices in advance and secure loose outdoor items in case of gusty winds.

Storm chances taper off overnight, but unsettled conditions may linger into the weekend. Additional advisories could be issued if thunderstorm coverage increases.
