Columbia, South Carolina – Memorial Day plans across the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) could be dampened as scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms move through the region, especially south and east of I-20.
According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, rain chances range from 30 to 50 percent throughout Monday, with the highest likelihood in areas like Orangeburg, Aiken, and Barnwell. While not a total washout, forecasters say showers may develop during the afternoon and early evening hours, particularly in the southern Midlands.
High temperatures will remain below normal, ranging from the upper 60s to low 80s. Morning lows dipped into the upper 50s across northern counties like Newberry and Kershaw. Gusty winds and brief downpours are possible in heavier cells, though severe weather is not expected.
Drivers should use caution on wet roads, especially along I-26 and U.S. Highway 1. If you’re grilling or attending local events in Columbia, Lexington, or Sumter, keep a rain jacket or umbrella handy and monitor conditions throughout the day.
Rain chances taper off by late evening, but clouds are expected to linger overnight. Additional updates will be issued if stronger storms develop this afternoon.
