Columbia, SC – Temperatures will soar into the upper 80s and low 90s through the weekend across central South Carolina and eastern Georgia, but a cold front late Sunday is set to change that pattern quickly.
According to the National Weather Service Columbia, a stretch of unseasonably warm weather will persist through Sunday, with highs reaching 89°F in Columbia and 90°F in Augusta on Friday. Sunny to partly cloudy skies will dominate until Sunday evening, when a cold front pushes in with potential thunderstorms.
Saturday remains warm and mostly clear, with Columbia expecting a high of 87°F and Augusta forecast at 87°F as well. Overnight lows will range from the low to mid-60s throughout the region.
Sunday night is when the shift begins. The front is expected to bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly between 6 p.m. and midnight, impacting evening travel and outdoor plans.
Residents are advised to stay weather-aware, especially during late Sunday travel. Have a flashlight, charge devices in advance, and avoid flooded roadways.
This warm spell offers a preview of summer, but next week brings cooler, more seasonal temperatures. Highs are projected to drop into the low 70s by Monday, providing a noticeable contrast from the weekend heat.
