Greenville, SC – A winter storm watch has been issued across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia, predicting heavy snowfall and icy conditions from Friday morning through Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Greenville-Spartanburg, areas outside the mountains may see 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet. Ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch are possible. Mountain regions could experience 3 to 6 inches of snow, with significant travel disruptions expected.
The winter storm is anticipated to begin early Friday, with hazardous conditions likely impacting the morning and evening commutes. Snow and ice may render many roads impassable, while tree limbs and power lines weighed down by ice could cause scattered outages. Residents in affected regions, including Piedmont and Upstate South Carolina, northeast Georgia, and western North Carolina, are urged to prepare.
The NWS advises monitoring local weather updates and taking precautions to ensure safety. Preparations include checking vehicles for winter readiness, stocking emergency supplies, and planning alternate travel routes. Emergency crews recommend avoiding non-essential travel during the storm’s peak.
