Columbia, SC – Increasing moisture is set to bring scattered showers across South Carolina today, with rain continuing through tonight. Commuters along I-26 and other major routes should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility, especially this evening.

According to the National Weather Service, the probability of at least 0.25 inches of rain across the Midlands is high, with Greenville and Greenwood seeing chances above 90%. Rainfall is expected to begin early this afternoon and intensify through the night as a cold front approaches. A chance of showers will linger into Wednesday morning before skies clear later in the day.

Today’s high will reach near 70 degrees with patchy fog early, giving way to increased cloud cover and light winds. Tonight’s low will drop to 60 degrees with widespread showers, most likely occurring between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Rainfall totals are expected to be modest, generally between one-tenth and one-quarter of an inch.

Wednesday morning will bring a final chance of rain, mainly before 9 a.m., with skies gradually clearing. Temperatures will climb to a high of 74 degrees by afternoon, accompanied by calm winds shifting to the northwest. The five-day forecast shows a sharp drop in temperatures Thursday, with highs in the upper 50s and sunny skies lasting through the weekend.
