Wilmington, NC – Southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 8 a.m. Wednesday, with snow expected to create slippery road conditions.

The National Weather Service forecasts snow accumulations up to one inch across areas including Lumberton, Florence, Darlington, and Marion. Localized higher amounts may occur, particularly in areas north of Mullins and Bennettsville.

Roads may become slick overnight, especially on bridges and overpasses. Motorists are urged to drive slowly, leave extra stopping distance, and check conditions before heading out. Residents can monitor road updates through 511 in North Carolina and South Carolina.

The snow will begin late Tuesday evening and taper off early Wednesday morning. Temperatures near freezing overnight will rise into the low 40s by midday Wednesday, easing travel concerns.

This rare snow event for the region may also cause minor disruptions to morning routines. Residents are encouraged to allow extra time for travel and exercise caution while walking on potentially icy sidewalks and driveways.

Warmer weather is expected to return later in the week, with highs near 50°F by Thursday. However, until then, take precautions, stay informed, and avoid unnecessary travel during the advisory period.
