Indianapolis, IN – A powerful winter storm is set to hit central Indiana on Sunday, bringing 4 to 8 inches of snow and gusty winds. Officials warn of hazardous travel conditions, particularly along the I-70 corridor, as snow intensifies through the day.

According to the National Weather Service, the Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday through 1 p.m. Monday. Heavy snowfall is expected to begin Sunday morning and continue overnight, potentially disrupting both morning and evening commutes. Wind gusts of up to 35 mph may cause snowdrifts and reduced visibility.

Residents are urged to limit travel during the storm and prepare for possible power outages due to downed tree limbs. Drivers who must be on the roads should pack emergency kits, including flashlights, water, and blankets, and avoid hills or poorly treated surfaces.

The system will bring clearing skies by Monday afternoon, with temperatures hovering near 28°F. However, wind chills will make it feel much colder, and icy conditions may persist on untreated roads.

Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday will bring a reprieve with sunny skies and highs in the mid-20s, but temperatures will dip to single digits at night. By late Thursday, another system could bring light snow to the region.

Stay updated by checking local forecasts and heeding travel advisories. For those in central Indiana, preparation is key to staying safe during this impactful storm.
