Little Rock, AR – A winter storm will bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain across Arkansas today, significantly impacting travel through Friday. Forecasters predict snow accumulations of up to 8 inches in some areas, with a wintry mix likely in the southern counties.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock, precipitation is expected to begin mid-morning Thursday and intensify overnight. Snow will likely taper off west to east by Friday afternoon. Northern and central Arkansas will see the heaviest snowfall, while southern counties may experience a mix of freezing rain and sleet.

Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly along Interstate 40 and surrounding highways, where hazardous conditions are likely. The Arkansas Department of Transportation has begun salting major roadways in preparation for icy surfaces. Residents should allow extra time for commutes and avoid bridges and overpasses, which freeze faster than other roadways.

Temperatures will remain below freezing through Friday, with lows around 20°F. Friday will see lingering snow before clearing by evening. The weekend promises sunny skies, with highs reaching the mid-30s Saturday and near 40°F on Sunday.

Residents should monitor updates from local authorities, secure provisions, and prepare for potential power outages in areas affected by ice accumulation. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov/lzk.
