Grand Rapids, MI – Snow is set to move into West Michigan this afternoon, intensifying overnight and bringing hazardous travel conditions. Up to 4 inches of snow is expected in the Grand Rapids area by Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin after 4 p.m. Thursday and peak between 7 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday. Commuters should prepare for slick roads, especially on major highways such as I-96 and US-131. Visibility may be reduced, and slower travel is anticipated during Friday morning’s rush hour.
Residents are urged to allow extra time for travel and check road conditions before heading out. Temperatures will hover around freezing today, with gusty southeast winds making it feel even colder. Tonight’s low will dip to 28°F as the snowfall accumulates.
Looking ahead, the snow is expected to taper off by Friday afternoon, leaving cloudy skies and a high near 30°F. The weekend will bring calmer weather, with partly cloudy conditions on Saturday and highs reaching only 25°F. Sunday will be mostly sunny, but temperatures will remain cold, with a high of 26°F. Another round of snow may arrive by Monday, potentially disrupting holiday travel plans.
Stay updated by following the National Weather Service for real-time warnings and road updates. Travelers are encouraged to have winter emergency kits on hand and exercise caution on untreated roads.
