Minneapolis, MN – Snow squalls are expected to sweep across eight states from tonight into Friday, bringing dangerous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service warns of brief, intense bursts of snow and strong winds stretching from Montana to Minnesota. These squalls could reduce visibility to near zero, making travel hazardous. Impacts are forecast across Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

According to the Weather Prediction Center, snow squalls will likely begin in Montana by 11 p.m. MST, moving eastward through Friday evening. The most affected areas could see wind gusts over 40 mph and rapidly accumulating snowfall.

Drivers are urged to remain cautious, as sudden whiteouts and icy roads may cause accidents. Cold temperatures accompanying the squalls will increase risks for frostbite and hypothermia. Officials recommend delaying travel and keeping an emergency kit in vehicles.

By Saturday, frigid Arctic air will settle over much of the U.S., bringing dangerous wind chills as low as -30°F in some areas. Residents are advised to prepare for extreme cold through early next week.
