Travelers are urged to exercise extreme caution as snow squalls and gusty winds could create near-whiteout conditions throughout the day.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snowfall will hit the central and southern Colorado mountains today and persist into Sunday. Snowfall rates could exceed one inch per hour in some areas, with high-elevation roads becoming particularly dangerous. Lower valleys, including parts of Grand Junction, may see light snow or a wintry mix.
Temperatures will remain cold today, peaking at 44°F before dipping to a low of 23°F tonight. Winds will shift from southeast to northwest by evening, intensifying blowing snow hazards.
Sunday’s forecast calls for clearer skies and calmer winds but remains chilly with a high near 42°F. Snow showers could return late Monday night, with another cold front expected midweek. Temperatures through Wednesday will range from highs in the low 40s to lows in the teens.
Drivers should prepare for delays and ensure their vehicles are winter-ready. The National Weather Service advises avoiding travel during peak snowfall and keeping emergency supplies on hand if road conditions worsen.
