Billings, MT – Southeast Montana residents should prepare for strong northwest winds Tuesday, with gusts expected to reach up to 50 mph. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned of potential travel disruptions, particularly along I-90 and I-94, as the winds increase late tonight and persist into Wednesday.
According to the NWS in Billings, the strongest gusts are likely near the Dakotas border, making high-profile vehicles vulnerable to dangerous crosswinds. Drivers are urged to secure loose items, delay nonessential travel, or use alternate routes if possible. Additionally, light snow showers this evening could create slick conditions before clearing overnight.
Tuesday’s forecast brings sunny skies with highs near 41°F in Billings, but sustained winds of 20 mph will make it feel cooler. Winds are expected to ease slightly by Tuesday night, dropping to 8–11 mph as temperatures dip to 19°F.
Looking ahead, Wednesday will remain mostly sunny with a high of 39°F, offering a brief respite from precipitation. However, another chance of snow and rain showers returns Thursday night into Friday. High temperatures this week will hover in the low-to-mid 40s, with overnight lows in the 20s.
Residents should stay updated through the NWS and local advisories as conditions evolve. Travelers on I-90 and I-94 should remain cautious and plan for delays as wind gusts could impact roadways through Wednesday evening.
