Gaylord, MI – Snow is set to blanket parts of eastern Upper Michigan as a fast-moving clipper system brings wet, accumulating snow starting tonight and continuing into Tuesday morning. Motorists should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility, particularly on M-123, US-2, and other key routes in the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snowfall totals will range between 3 to 6 inches across much of the eastern Upper Peninsula, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 8 inches. The heaviest snowfall is expected from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, with conditions remaining challenging through the Tuesday morning commute.

Roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, may become icy overnight as wet snow transitions to freezing conditions. Drivers should allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and maintain a safe following distance. Residents are also advised to monitor updated forecasts for any changes to the snowfall projections.

Looking ahead, snow showers will continue intermittently through Thanksgiving, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s during the day and dropping to the low 20s at night. Winds could create additional blowing snow concerns, with gusts up to 30 mph expected through Tuesday.

By Wednesday, precipitation will taper off slightly, but snow is likely to return late Wednesday night into Thanksgiving Day, adding to already slippery roadways. Travelers heading to holiday destinations should stay updated on weather conditions and prepare for potential delays.

Stay safe by avoiding unnecessary travel during peak snowfall periods and using winter tires for added traction.
