Pittsburgh, PA – A winter weather advisory is in effect for western Pennsylvania starting Friday evening, with snow expected to accumulate through Saturday. Local residents should prepare for slippery conditions on roadways, including I-79 and I-376, as temperatures remain below freezing.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow will begin Friday night, potentially bringing 2-3 inches of accumulation across the region by Saturday morning. Highs on Saturday will reach only 31°F, with light winds intensifying the cold. The advisory will remain in effect through 1 a.m. Sunday, impacting travel plans and outdoor activities.
Saturday night temperatures will drop to 19°F under mostly cloudy skies. Sunday brings a brief reprieve with partly cloudy conditions and highs near 33°F, but another snow system is likely by Monday afternoon. The NWS warns that Monday night could see additional snow accumulation, further complicating travel in the area.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast predicts consistently cold weather for Pittsburgh. Highs will range from the teens to low 30s, with lows dipping into the single digits early next week. Tuesday and Wednesday may bring additional snow showers as another cold front moves through the region.
Residents are urged to use caution while driving and allow extra travel time during the advisory period. Those planning outdoor activities should dress in layers and avoid extended exposure to the cold.
