Reno, NV – A winter weather advisory is in place for northeastern California, western Nevada, and the Lake Tahoe area from Thursday evening through Friday night. The National Weather Service has warned of possible snow accumulation and challenging travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall could reach up to 3 inches above 5,500 feet west of Highway 395 in northeast California. In higher elevations, such as areas around Lake Tahoe, snow accumulation may range between 6 and 10 inches above 6,500 feet, while Nevada valleys might see up to 3 inches.
Travel is expected to be particularly difficult over mountain passes Thursday night and into Friday. Motorists should anticipate delays and exercise caution on icy roads. Authorities advise checking road conditions before travel through resources like nvroads.com or quickmap.dot.ca.gov.
The advisory underscores the importance of allowing extra time for travel in affected areas, particularly for those commuting or planning to visit the Tahoe region.
