Marquette, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, including Marquette, Alger, Luce, and Northern Schoolcraft counties. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), warns of lake effect snow expected to accumulate one to two inches by 4 p.m. EST Tuesday.

According to the NWS, road conditions are likely to be slippery, especially during the evening commute. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and allow extra time for travel. The advisory covers areas including Munising, Newberry, and Gwinn, where snowfall will be heaviest.

Snowfall began earlier this morning, with cold temperatures intensifying the impact. By noon, accumulation was already noticeable on secondary roads and untreated surfaces. Additional snow is expected to taper off after 4 p.m., though lingering flurries may persist into the evening.

Residents should prepare for hazardous travel conditions, particularly on highways and rural roads. Officials recommend reducing speed and maintaining a safe following distance when driving. Pedestrians are also advised to exercise caution on icy sidewalks and walkways.

Temperatures across the region are expected to remain below freezing, with highs reaching only the low 20s. Wind chills will make it feel even colder throughout the day.
