Indianapolis, IN – Indiana State Police are responding to numerous crashes on I-65 and I-74 as snow and ice create hazardous conditions. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution while traveling.
According to Indiana State Police, accidents began early Thursday morning as snowfall reduced visibility and made roadways slick. Emergency responders are stationed at crash scenes to assist drivers and clear the highways.
Troopers advise reducing speed and increasing following distance to minimize risks. “Speed limits are for ideal conditions,” said an ISP representative. Drivers are also encouraged to check tires, wipers, and lights before heading out.
Motorists encountering emergency vehicles should move over and slow down, as required by state law. This practice protects responders working in dangerous conditions.
Officials remind the public to avoid distractions and remain alert behind the wheel. Delays are likely as crews work to address accidents and clear icy patches.
Travelers are advised to plan for additional travel time and stay updated on conditions. The Indiana State Police will continue monitoring the situation.
Stay safe and prepared on the roads this winter.
