Philadelphia, PA – Southeastern Pennsylvania will see a sharp shift in weather this week, with snow and ice expected Monday night as Christmas approaches.

Today will remain cold and clear, with highs around 27 degrees and lows dropping to 12 tonight, according to the National Weather Service. Monday will bring a slight warm-up, with highs near 31 degrees, but the calm conditions won’t last. Forecasters warn that a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will develop late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, potentially making travel hazardous.

The National Weather Service advises motorists to prepare for icy roads, particularly on I-95 and local highways during the Tuesday morning commute. Precipitation is expected to taper off by mid-morning, with minor snow accumulation of less than half an inch likely.

As the Arctic air exits midweek, conditions will improve. Christmas Eve is forecast to be partly cloudy, with highs near 39 degrees, providing a much-needed break from the cold. Christmas Day will bring similar conditions, with sunshine and highs around 40, making for a pleasant holiday.

Despite the milder trend by midweek, temperatures will remain near freezing overnight, so residents should continue taking precautions against icy surfaces and frostbite risks.

Stay updated on local forecasts and prepare for possible delays if traveling early this week. Bundle up, stay safe, and enjoy the improving conditions as Christmas nears.
