Malibu, CA – A mild earthquake struck just north of Malibu, California, on Saturday, causing slight tremors that some residents reported feeling. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the quake at a magnitude of 2.5, with its epicenter located 6 kilometers north of Malibu.

According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at approximately 11:35 a.m. PST at a depth of 10 kilometers. Although classified as a minor quake, it was significant enough to prompt locals to submit over a dozen reports detailing mild shaking. The earthquake’s intensity measured at a level III on the Community Internet Intensity Map, indicating light shaking with no expected damage.

Southern California experiences frequent minor earthquakes due to its position along the Pacific “Ring of Fire.” Experts urge residents to remain prepared, as even small earthquakes serve as reminders of the region’s seismic activity.

No injuries or damages were reported following the earthquake, but the USGS continues to monitor aftershocks and nearby seismic activity. Californians are encouraged to use the USGS “Did You Feel It?” tool to report any further experiences.
