Small Earthquake Rattles Desert Aire, Washington – Residents Asked to Report

Desert Aire, WA – A mild earthquake shook the area 12 kilometers southeast of Desert Aire early Wednesday morning.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake registered a magnitude of 2.6 at 10:23 a.m. UTC (3:23 a.m. local time). The tremor occurred at a depth of 7.5 kilometers below the surface.

Residents in Desert Aire and nearby areas are encouraged to report if they felt the shaking. While the earthquake was relatively minor, locals are being asked to contribute to citizen science by providing details of their experiences.

Earthquakes of this magnitude typically cause little to no structural damage, though the shaking can still be felt depending on one’s proximity to the epicenter. So far, no reports of damage or injuries have been released.
