Shreveport, LA – A winter storm warning remains in effect across the region from 6 a.m. Thursday to noon Friday. Snow, sleet, and ice are expected to make travel dangerous.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm could bring between 2 and 8 inches of snow. Ice accumulations up to 0.25 inches are possible in portions of south-central and southwest Arkansas, northwest Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, and northeast Texas. The hazardous conditions could disrupt morning and evening commutes on Thursday.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to become slick and hazardous. Strong winds, combined with heavy snow, could damage tree limbs and power lines, causing potential outages. The NWS advises residents to avoid travel if possible. Those who must travel should carry an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight.
The NWS also warned of sudden changes in visibility. Drivers should allow extra time to reach their destinations and avoid sudden braking or acceleration. Vehicles should be winterized to ensure safe operation in icy conditions.
The warning extends to cities including Shreveport, Texarkana, Longview, and El Dorado. Officials urge caution and preparedness ahead of the severe weather. For real-time road conditions, call 511 or check state transportation websites.
This winter storm is the first significant weather event of the season for the region. Stay tuned for updates and forecasts as the storm progresses.
