Shreveport, LA – Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast to sweep across northwest Louisiana today, threatening travel plans and holiday celebrations. Residents should prepare for downpours, possible flooding, and patchy fog, especially during overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, storms are expected to intensify early Thursday morning and persist through midday. Rainfall could total between half an inch and one inch, with localized areas seeing even higher amounts. Motorists along I-20 and surrounding highways are urged to exercise caution due to reduced visibility and slippery roadways.

Thunderstorms may bring strong winds and isolated severe weather late Thursday night. Power outages and minor flooding are possible in low-lying areas. The risk of severe weather diminishes by Friday morning, with skies clearing for a partly sunny afternoon. Temperatures will reach a high of 69 degrees on Friday before dropping to 47 overnight.

Looking ahead, scattered showers and thunderstorms may return Saturday, but sunny skies are expected by Sunday. New Year’s Eve brings favorable weather with clear skies and a high near 57 degrees.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and secure loose outdoor items ahead of possible storms. If traveling, allow extra time for delays and stay informed about road conditions.
