Springfield, Mo. – Thunderstorms will roll into southwest Missouri late Wednesday night, bringing lightning, brief downpours, and the potential for unsettled weather across the Ozarks into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, storms will first develop in western parts of the region overnight, then shift eastward through Thursday with an 80–90% chance of precipitation. Overnight lows will range from 53 to 58 degrees, with daytime highs Thursday between 65 and 76 degrees.

Residents in Springfield, Joplin, and Rolla should expect periods of heavy rain Thursday morning, which may affect the morning commute. While severe weather is not currently anticipated, lightning and wet roads could lead to hazardous driving conditions.

By Friday, skies will begin to clear with drier, partly cloudy weather continuing through the weekend. Temperatures will climb into the low 80s by Sunday in areas like Branson and West Plains.

While the weekend looks dry, early next week could bring another round of showers and storms. Officials recommend staying weather-aware and monitoring updates, especially for Monday, when rain chances return.

More updates are expected if storm activity intensifies or additional alerts are issued.
