Quad Cities, IA/IL – Thunderstorms are moving through eastern Iowa and western Illinois overnight, bringing lightning and strong wind gusts up to 40 mph.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Quad Cities, an area of showers with embedded thunderstorms is tracking eastward at 60 mph. The greatest storm threat is expected through 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Lightning poses the primary hazard, along with locally strong winds that may down small branches. Cities including Davenport, Iowa City, and Rock Island could experience periods of heavy rain and gusty conditions.

Residents planning to be outdoors should stay alert and seek shelter if storms approach. The NWS advises following the rule: “When thunder roars, go indoors.”

Travelers should be prepared for reduced visibility and sudden wind gusts on highways. Stay tuned to local weather updates as conditions change overnight.
