Austin, TX — A cold start to the week will bring freezing temperatures and the potential for wintry precipitation to South-Central Texas. Residents should prepare for wind chills as low as 12 degrees and icy conditions on roadways, including stretches of US-90.

According to the National Weather Service, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Monday, with sub-freezing temperatures and fire risks expected due to low humidity and gusty winds. Highs will remain in the 40s through midweek, with the coldest nights forecast tonight and Tuesday, dipping into the upper 20s.

By Wednesday night, a storm system may bring rain or sleet to the region, increasing travel hazards on Thursday morning. The chance of precipitation rises to 70% on Thursday, with a high of 39 degrees predicted. Northerly winds will make conditions feel even colder, prompting officials to advise layering clothing, avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure, and ensuring that heaters are safely maintained.

Looking ahead, temperatures will begin to moderate by Friday, with highs reaching the mid-40s and mostly cloudy skies. Saturday offers a reprieve with sunny conditions and a high near 54 degrees.

Motorists are urged to monitor weather updates closely and exercise caution on icy roads, particularly during early morning commutes. Stay tuned to local forecasts for the latest developments on potential wintry weather.
