Jackson, MS – Mississippi experienced a series of devastating tornadoes on March 15, including a powerful EF-4 tornado that tore through parts of Kentwood, LA, and multiple Mississippi counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson released preliminary damage survey results, confirming several tornadoes with varying intensities across the state.
According to NWS, the most destructive tornado struck Kentwood, LA, and tracked through Darbun, Society Hill, and Carson, reaching peak winds of 170 mph. This EF-4 twister traveled 65.2 miles and resulted in five fatalities. An EF-3 tornado also touched down near Tylertown and NW Marion, causing significant damage.
Other confirmed tornadoes include an EF-2 in Melba Seminary (130 mph winds) and multiple EF-1 tornadoes in areas such as Clarkdale, Leaf River Hebron, and Lebanon Hickory. These storms caused structural damage and power outages but had fewer reported injuries.
Mississippi residents are urged to remain vigilant during severe weather events. Officials recommend having an emergency plan and monitoring updates from the NWS. Damage assessments are ongoing, and additional storm reports may emerge in the coming days.
