Cleveland, OH – A blast of arctic air is set to sweep across Northeast Ohio this week, bringing lake effect snow and dangerously low wind chills. Residents in the snowbelt could see snowfall accumulations of up to 15 inches, with subzero wind chills creating hazardous conditions overnight through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, a Lake Effect Snow Warning is in effect for Erie County, PA, starting early Tuesday morning through Thursday. Snowfall of 12 to 15 inches is expected in this area. Elsewhere across the snowbelt, including Northeast Ohio, snow totals may range from 3 to 5 inches. The cold will be intensified by gusty winds, producing wind chill values as low as -10°F at night.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution on I-90 and other key roadways as visibility may become limited during periods of heavy snow. Schools and businesses should monitor local updates for potential closures or delays.
The cold snap continues through midweek, with Tuesday’s high only reaching 22°F and Wednesday’s high barely hitting 23°F. Overnight lows will dip into the low teens, with wind chills expected to remain below zero during the night. A slight warm-up is forecast by Friday, with highs near 37°F and partly sunny skies.
Stay indoors during the coldest times, dress in layers, and ensure your vehicle is winter-ready. Be sure to check on neighbors and loved ones who may be vulnerable to extreme cold. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov.
