According to the US National Weather Service Central, storm coverage is anticipated to increase just after sunset, particularly in west central to south central Illinois. While these areas are most at risk, other parts of central and southeast Illinois could also be affected.
Expected storm hazards include isolated hail up to the size of ping pong balls, wind gusts reaching 60 mph, and heavy rainfall that could lead to urban and small stream flooding. Residents are advised to have multiple ways to receive warnings and to know their shelter locations in case of severe weather.
The extended forecast for the region shows a mix of weather patterns, with thunderstorms likely on Wednesday and Friday. Temperatures are expected to drop to 68°F and 64°F on those days respectively. The weekend looks to be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 80s, while next week promises sunny skies and milder temperatures ranging from 55°F to 78°F.
