Amarillo, TX – Severe weather is forecasted to hit the Texas Panhandle this afternoon, with the greatest risk focused along the Amarillo to Guymon line. Residents in this area should prepare for damaging winds, large hail, and multiple rounds of storms likely to persist into early Sunday. Travel along Highway 87 and I-40 could be affected, with hazardous conditions expected due to possible 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter.

According to the National Weather Service, the severe weather potential will peak between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., but storms could persist into the overnight hours. The atmosphere west of the Amarillo to Guymon line is especially favorable for storm development.

Stay updated on weather alerts throughout the weekend and limit travel if severe conditions arise. Sunday is expected to bring a continued chance of thunderstorms, gradually clearing by Monday with milder weather into midweek.
