Charleston, WV – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia until 10 p.m. EDT Saturday. This alert is in addition to a tornado watch currently in effect for areas of eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia, and western Pennsylvania until 8 p.m.

According to the US National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the severe thunderstorm watch includes potential threats such as a couple of tornadoes, isolated hail up to quarter size, and wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph. The affected area encompasses over one million residents, 390 schools, and 32 hospitals.

Residents in these regions are advised to stay alert and prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions. Secure outdoor objects that could become projectiles in high winds, and ensure you have a way to receive weather updates, such as a weather radio or a smartphone app.
