Knoxville, TN – A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until midnight for parts of East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Eastern Kentucky. The National Weather Service issued the alert as strong storms move through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, TN, the watch covers 20 counties in Tennessee, including Knox, Blount, Anderson, and Sevier. Two counties in Southwest Virginia, Lee and Scott, are also affected. Kentucky counties under the watch include Bell, Clay, Harlan, and Whitley.
Residents in the affected areas should prepare for damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rain. The storm system could also produce isolated tornadoes. Officials urge people to stay indoors and monitor local weather updates.
Cities under the watch include Knoxville, Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, and Morristown. Storm conditions may cause travel disruptions and power outages. Emergency officials advise securing outdoor objects and having a safety plan.
The watch remains in effect until 12:00 a.m. EST. The National Weather Service will provide updates as conditions develop.
