Austin, TX – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of Central Texas, effective from 11:00 PM CDT Friday, April 4, until 5:00 AM CDT Saturday, April 5. The watch area includes cities such as Austin, Del Rio, and surrounding communities, with the potential for large hail and damaging wind gusts.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, thunderstorms are expected to intensify rapidly throughout the night. The primary threats include scattered large hail, with some storms potentially producing hailstones as large as 2.5 inches in diameter. Additionally, damaging wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph are likely.

The watch area spans approximately 80 miles north and south of a line extending from 70 miles northwest of Del Rio to 50 miles north of Austin. Residents within the watch area are urged to stay alert for severe weather conditions and monitor local broadcasts for updates.

As severe thunderstorms can sometimes produce tornadoes, individuals should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
