Winter storm warnings blanket much of eastern Colorado today, creating challenging travel conditions along major routes like I-70 and I-25. Significant snowfall, up to 2-3 feet in some areas, is expected to accumulate through Saturday, especially in Elbert and Lincoln counties. Forecasters warn of impossible travel conditions, with snow rates exceeding one inch per hour in some regions, posing substantial risks for drivers.

According to the National Weather Service Denver/Boulder, the heaviest snowfall will impact the Palmer Divide and the eastern plains. Snowfall totals could reach an additional 12-20 inches overnight, making conditions particularly dangerous for Saturday morning’s commute across metro Denver and surrounding foothills. The snow is expected to impact travel along I-25 and major routes leading into the mountains, with severe disruptions likely.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel as road conditions will remain hazardous through the weekend. Wind gusts combined with heavy snowfall are anticipated to reduce visibility, increasing the risk of accidents. If travel is essential, ensure vehicles are winter-ready with emergency supplies.

Five-Day Forecast for Colorado:

Saturday: Snow continues, heavy at times in the morning, tapering off by evening. Highs around 30°F.

Sunday: Partly cloudy with scattered snow showers in the morning. Highs in the mid-30s.

Monday (Veterans Day): Clear skies but chilly, with temperatures ranging from 20°F to 35°F.

Tuesday: Slightly warmer, highs around 40°F with sunshine.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, highs in the low 40s.

Residents should prepare for prolonged winter conditions and check local advisories for updates on road closures and travel restrictions.
